General Description

Cordillera Real - Bolivia A great llama supported expedition along the unspoiled western and eastern sides of the Cordillera Real de Bolivia, an amazing mountain range which stretches for about 100 miles/160 kilometres from the IIlampu-Ancohuma Massif in the northwest ending at Mount IIIimani, southeast of La Paz. This is also a oportunity for a close encounter with the Aymara people.

Itinerary

Condoriri - Bolivia Day 1:
Arrive at El Alto international airport. Transfer to your hotel in La Paz.

Day 2:
In the morning, visit of the Witches Market, the San Francisco Basilica and Murillo Square. In the afternoon, excursion to "The Animas Valley", an impressive landscape of sandy monoliths sculptured by natural erosion. Overnigh in hotel in La Paz (B)

Day 3:
Excursion to Tiahuanaco (pre-Inca civilization) located 44 miles/72 km from La Paz, enjoying beautiful views of the Cordillera Real. Arrival at Tiahuanaco and guided tour of the most important pre-Inca ceremonial centre and visits to the ritual-platform compound of Kalasasaya, the pyramid of Akapana and the world-famous "Gate of the Sun". Drive to Lake Titicaca and lodging in a local inn or return la Paz. (B)

Cordillera Real - Bolivia Day4:
Drive to Hichukhota Valley, the main entrance to the Chachacomani-Negruni Region. The three-hour drive takes us to the shores of lake Choknakjota at 4420 metres of altitude. Overnight in Camp (B L D).

Day 5:
We start our first day trekking towards our camp at Ajwani Lake at 4500 metres above sea level. This region is known as the Chacapa Massif Mountain Range. Overnight in Camp (B L D).

Day 6
Today we cross two high passes; Janchallani pass at 4800 metres and Jurikjota pass at 4900 metres. We set up our camp at 4700 metres of altitude on the shores of lake Jurikjota. From the camp we enjoy magnificent views of the northern sides of the Condoriri Massif. Overnight in Camp (B L D).

Day7:
Today's hike goes along a moraine up to a wonderful icy lake at the base of a magnificent glacier. We continue our trek to reach the highest point of our expedition at 5100 metres of altitude, enjoying the view over the beautiful Condoriri Peak. Descend towards the Condoriri Valley where we set up our camp on the shores of lake Chiarjota at 4650 metres. Overnight in Camp (B L D).)

Condoriri - Bolivia Day 8:
Rest day to enjoy this beautiful area and its stupendous views over the surrounding mountains; Condoriri, Pequeno Alpamayo, Pequena Illusion.... Overnight in Camp (B L D).

Day 9:
Today we hike towards Ancoma Village (3700 metres), overcoming two high passes and heading down towards Lividinosa Valley. We are already on the east side of the Cordillera Real and we experience the changes in temperature. The climate is more humid and warm winds are coming from the jungle. Overnight in Camp at Ancoma (B L D).

Day 10:
Crossing the small village of Ancoma we head towards Uma Palca Village on the east side of Tiquimani Peak. This impressive trek takes us around the base of this magnificent rocky and icy peak. Overnight in Camp at 4000 metres (B L D).

Illimani - Cordillera Real - Bolivia Day 11:
Trekking on the eastern side of Matilde Peak, we head down towards the east to Sanja Valley. Overnight in Camp at 3800 metres (B L D).

Day 12:
A 2 hour trek takes us to the Chucura Pass. After another 3 hours down we reach Samarla Pampa Village, the gateway to the Amazon. This village is crossed by an impressive Inca Road following it's way down to Coroico, a legendary village at the beginning of the rainforest. Overnight in Camp at 3800 metres (B L D).

Day 13:
Today we follow this spectacular Inca Road, perhaps one of the most beautiful anywhere in the Inca World. The very well maintained road climbs a steep and rocky mountain to la Cumbre Pass at 4700 metres, from where a short walk leads us down to the valley where we meet our vehicle. Drive back to La Paz. Overnight in hotel (B L)

Day 14:
Free resting day in La Paz. Optional excursion to Copacabana Village, the Bolivian Resort on the shores of Titicaca Lake. Overnight in hotel (B)

Day 15:
Transfer out to the airport (B)
