Belem, a city founded by the Portuguese by the mouth of the Amazon river, in the sixteenth century, houses an extraordinary and well preserved architecture, comprising houses, governmental buildings, churches and palaces in the colonial downtown. The indigenous culture has strongly influenced life and culture of its people, especially in cooking and dance.
Marajo, located on the mouths of the Tocantins and the Amazon rivers, is an attraction in itself. One of the largest islands in the world, it is covered by woods on the west and by huge areas of flooded prairies on the east, where the Asian water buffalo is raised. The whole island is encircled by beautiful beaches and mangroves, and in its hinterland, the richness of the wildlife can be easily enjoyed.
Manaus is known as the "Jungle Capital". The huge amazon forest, a place to see... legends, discoveries, adventure, dreams and an unforgettable experience. A mysterious place and a land of diversity. Ariau is situated 38 miles from Manaus, about 2 hours and a half on boat up the Negro River. The hotel is built at treetop level, with pathways linking the comfortable wood lodges. Here you see monkeys, raccoons, as well as a large variety of birds. Enjoy a canoe trip to the beautiful river channels and into the flooded forest.
