The village of "Valenca", located some 265 km south of "Salvador" on the banks
of the river "Una", was founded in 1799.
Just off the "Valenca" coast lies "Tinhare" Island and "Morro de Sao Paulo"
an idyllic fishing village, situated on the headland of the northernmost
tip of the island, lush with ferns, palm trees, beautiful beaches and
birds of paradise, overlooked by the lighthouse and ruins of a colonial
fortification. On the top of the hill (morro) there is a viewpoint
with a splendid panoramic view. Cars are not allowed in "Morro de Sao Paulo". Besides boats and the visitor's own legs, there are no
means of transportation. During the Brazilian high season,
December to February and the month of July, "Morro de Sao Paulo"
has a dynamic nightlife.
