Chile and Easter Island

"Naturally Extreme"

Chile emerges majestically and imposingly with its volcanoes, lakes, deserts, untainted glaciers and forests, each of them places of silence, of vastness and of age-old nature. Just two things remain constant among its long and narrow geography: the imposing Andean Mountain chain and the enormous Pacific Ocean.
In the extreme North is the Atacama Desert, acknowledged the driest place on earth. Its sands hide archaeological treasures over 10,000 years old. More inland are small settlements of unchanged indigenous peoples, tarns, geysers, salt flats and a very particular wildlife. The majestic desert slowly gives way to the cultivated valleys of Central Chile, with its vineyards, large fruit plantations, major cities, beautiful little coastal resorts and the best ski resorts of the Southern hemisphere. Further south are the Lakelands with broad meadows, native forests, lakes, volcanoes and picturesque towns. The true force of nature makes itself known in Patagonia, where cold-temperate jungle gives way to the Patagonian steppe and the territory fragments into tiny islands, fjords, lakes and glaciers, before reaching the end of the world - where the Andes disappears into the sea. Lost in the immense ocean is Easter Island, the navel of the world, with its mysterious moai. Really a country of geographic extremes!
