When you first glimpse the sea from the hills above Manuel Antonio, the
word paradise might cross your mind. The lovely beaches became a National Park before they could be turned into another
Acapulco. So far the hotels that sprung up in the last few years took the advantage of the beautiful views
without calling too much attention themselves.
Manuel Antonio national park is one of the few remaining habitats of the squirrel monkey. Howler and
white-faced monkeys, two-toed sloths, coatimundis and raccoons frequent the beaches shaded by leafy trees.
Iguanas pose like statues unless moving their heads up and down like pumps.
Snorkelling is a rewarding adventure at Manuel Antonio. In the dry season, when the water is clear, you see
iridescent peacock-coloured fish, conservative pinstriped fish and outrageous yellow fish with
diaphanous capes, all going in and out between the coral rocks.
