The Falkland Islands have been acclaimed as the new Galapagos because of the variety, quantity and
approachability of the spectacular wildlife. They were once described by the
distinguished American ornithologist and film-maker, Sewell Pettingill,
as "the only place on earth where men and penguins live comfortably together".
While you will almost certainly want to see black-browed
albatross or some of the five kinds of resident penguin, the attractions for the discerning visitor do not stop
there. For the active, fishing, golf, boating, horse riding and walking are all on offer, together with visits to
historical sites and museums.
Before your holiday ends, you will have the opportunity to rediscover the taste of organically produced
meat and fresh vegetables, sample some of the rich marine harvest from our clean waters and enjoy
traditional baking, just like grandma's.
Out and about, alone or with an informative guide, you may want to sample the life of the isolated farm
settlements, or simply enjoy our crystal clean air, white sand beaches, rugged hills, and big, big skies.
Sometimes you may experience the thrill of being apparently the only person alive in a wide-open
landscape, but always you will feel that sense of absolute personal security, which is sadly increasingly rare
in less privileged places. Wherever you go in the Falklands you find friendly people with the time to
talk and to listen
Falklands Islands are an ideal destination to observe Antarctica wildlife as most of the species found
in the Southern Ocean Islands and the Antarctica Continent itself are viewed in the Falklands.
A journey to the Falklands is also much more economic than an Antarctica cruise. There are now
weekly flights from Chile, monthly flights from Argentina and 6 flights a month from the UK.
