Hello Gilles,
First of all it was a great trip and I enjoyed every day. You have done a great job as well everything was well prepared and properly worked out. Quark expedition staff were highly skilled, well informed, really experts on their fields and very friendly to all of us.
Special thanks to Anna Sutcliffe, Expedition leader for her commitment to her job, Frank Todd and Lea Wiliams for their outstanding lectures. The Russian crew and their captain really did her best to fulfill our wishes. There were lots of landings often under difficult conditions but always with spectacular results as to wildlife and nature. Last but not least the passengers turned out to be an interesting pleasant small group of people from all over the world. D'abord l'excellence de votre conseil quant à la durée de voyage à choisir car il est vrai que les 2 passages du Drake sont des jours "perdus" surtout quand, comme pour nous, on a droit à la "Drake Tax".
Ensuite, toute l'organisation de Quark, depuis l'encadrement jusqu'à la qualité de la cuisine en passant par l'équipage russe, la logistique (acheminement des bagages au bateau), le service à bord... bref rien à redire.
Les épisodes ZODIAC se passent très bien et ne poseraient pas de problème à un cul de jatte (j'exagère peut-être un peu). Seul regret : pour des raisons de sécurité/environnement parfaitement compréhensibles, on est un peu "tenu en laisse" pour les balades à terre. Mais ce n'est qu'un regret de randonneur.
Enfin, l'Antarctique : superbe.
MOINS
Le temps fut couvert chaque jour mais cela personne n'y peut rien. Il faut vraiment chercher la petite bête...et on ne trouve pas (allez, on est parti d'Ushuaia avec 2 heures de retard dûes à un approvisionnement tardif en carburant, peut-être imputable au fournisseur).
Quant à l'hôtel NIRES, chambres très confortables, service prévenant. Le resto sert une nourriture de qualité (peut-être un peu trop "recherchée" pour les anglo-saxons) mais dans un cadre sans trop de charme (salle trop grande) même si la vue est très belle. En résumé nous sommes très satisfaits de notre trek et en chantés de la croisière.
Pour terminer, tous nos remerciements pour la patience que vous avez eue pour répondre à toutes nos interrogations/hésitations.

First of all I have to say that the staff was really professional in everything they were doing throughout the trip. Most of this I think comes from the very enthusiastic crew (expedition crew, specialists and boat crew). Also very security minded which gives a very good impression (emergency drill, safety zodiacs and landing tags for example).
It was never a dull moment on the trip. They kept you busy with seminars, educational videos, normal videos with connections to Antarctica and so on. Every evening they had a recap in the bar of what had happened during the day, what animals we saw and the programme for the next day. Since the weather is a big factor here changes are likely and it seemed like they always had some backup solutions to this. Very flexible and really trying to make the best out of the situation even though it meant more work for them.
Also the crew on the boat was really good. Very friendly and helpful in explaining details about navigating (radar, icebergs etc) or anything else regarding the ship, sailing or weather forecasts.
The food served on the boat was fantastic. I normally don't say this very often but it was restaurant food. Lunch and dinner served as a 3 meal course.Even a barbecue on deck one day! !!!!!! Big breakfast with fresh baked bread as well as egg & bacon. Afternoon tea with fresh made cakes or cookies. Fantastic!!!!! All compliments to the chef.
If there is something I should complain about, which there should always be :-). The knowledge of the specialist were not really the best. But with the enthusiasm they showed this could easily be overseen. Another thing that I was lacking was a public computer where it should be possible for the tourists to download their digital pictures and burn them onto a CD. This is a minor thing but since I was travelling with a backpack as well as some other people I couldn't bring my laptop.
I can strongly recommend this trip to everyone! This comment is something you see in all guestbooks but I have been around the world several times and when it comes to professionlism, enthusiasm and giving tourists an extraordinary experience I think it is hard to beat.

La croisière a été exceptionelle et je garderai un souvenir inoubliable de ce séjour qui s'est très bien passé. Il n'y a que des compliments a adresser à l'organisation. Le service à bord est très bon et l'organisation des expéditions à terre irréprochable. Il est probable que je retournerai en Antarctique dans quelques temps et je n'oublierai pas de vous recontacter à ce moment là.

Hi Gilles,
It took me a while to adjust back to civilisation and everyday's life, but here we are... I think the main feeling is that this was really an extraordinary experience, for the landscapes of Patagonia, the people I met there, and the adventure to set foot on Antarctica.
Antarctica was like a trip to another planet. The conditions were totally different from the trekking in Patagonia: you get comfort, a large group, it's not as intense physically. But the impression of landing there and walking among the penguins and the ice is amazing. I was happy there were so many scientists and professionals on the trip, so there was always an occasion to learn more things.
Hope these impressions will be valuable to you, and I will probably contact you guys in the near future for more South-American adventures.

BONJOUR GILLES
et bien nous sommes ravis de notre croisiere: service impeccable, organisation itou, confort à bord itou, repas itou, il n'y a rien à dire, rien à changer;
le seul hic que nous avons rencontré est le probleme de la langue; toutes les brochures sont en anglais, et sur le bateau, on ne parle que english; ça, c'est vraiment moyen; je sais bien qu'ils ne peuvent pas parler toutes les langues de la planete mais ils pourraient au moins parler l'espagnol... sachant que le point de depart est l'amerique du sud! cela nous a beaucoup dérangé surtout pour les briefings, et les "lectures" comme ils disent.. tous ces documentaires sur la faune, sur l'histoire, qui devaient certainement etre tres interressants mais que malheureusement nous n'avons compris qu'à moitié, ce qui est dommage car nous sommes passionnés de toutes ces choses-là.. nous étions présents à toutes les séances malgré tout, avides de connaissance, mais il y a beaucoup de clients non anglophones qui ont zappé toutes les séances et les briefings!!

Bonjour,
j'avais de toutes façons envie de vous faire part de mes remarques que j'espère vous transmettrez à Quark :
- L'Orlova est un bateau très agréable par sa taille et donc le peu de passagers à bord, ce qui permet de décendre à terre 2 fois par jour.
- L'équipage et le personnel de cabine et de cuisine sont tous SUPERS ! Nous avons très très bien mangé et tout le monde est très hospitalier, très gentil, très serviable, bref excellent !
- un des seuls problèmes du bateau, c'est parfois les odeurs de gasoil qui envahissent les cabines, avec le mal de mer c'est terrible !
- l'organisation Quark maintenant n'est pas aussi merveilleuse :
- le premier soir à Ushuaia, il y avait un briefing de prévu à partir de 5pm. Donc je coupe ma journée de visite pour être à ce briefing qui en fait s'est transformé en : quelqu'un qui n'était même pas membre de la croisière nous donnant simplement un conseil sur l'heure et l'endroit de dépose des bagages à embarquer sur le bateau. Pour un briefing, c'était bref !
- de plus , je n'ai jamais reçu de la part de Quark les étiquettes et les badges, il a donc fallu que je me débrouille...
- l'hôtel Albatros est extrêmement bruyant, alors que nous devions être dans un hôtel ( le las nires ) beaucoup mieux et beaucoup plus calme ( pour le même prix ). Par contre le Tolkeyen que vous m'aviez réservé au retour est super.
- Il y avait bien une membre du staff Quark qui était française, mais sa première phrase à la seule autre tourriste francophone ( une jeune femme franco-suisse ), qui ne parlait pas un mot d'Anglais a été : débrouillez-vous avec les Niquet de la cabine 602, ils parlent Anglais et ils vous traduirons, car ce n'est pas mon boulot ! ( sympatique entrée en matière..)
- donc, moi, je me suis efforcé d'aider cette jeune femme, ce n'était pas mon boulot et je n'étais pas payé pour ça ( au contraire, je payais très cher une croisière ... )
- d'autres membres de ce staff étaient parfaitement désagréables, ne disaient jamais bonjour,... alors que certains étaient tout-à-fait charmant.
- le chef d'expédition ( Olaf Carlson, je crois ) était excellent !
- d'ailleurs il y avait une espèce de clan parmi ce staff du style : nous, nous savons tout et pas de considération pour les tourristes ( idiots sûrement par nature...)
- On a l'impression aussi qu'ils ont fait leur croisière à eux, allant visiter entre eux certains points en bateau, donc sans tourriste.
- De plus, ils vous interdisent d'approcher des animaux afin de ne pas les perturber, ce qui est normal, mais eux afin de faire une bonne photo pour leurs articles ou autres s'autorisent à les perturber, mais comme ils ont l'air d'avoir le droit, eux parcequ'ils sont membres du staff, ils n'ont pas à se soumettre aux mêmes lois que la valetaille...
A part ça, les paysages et la nature étaient extraordinaires. Je pense que je vais une autre croisière comme celle-là en Arctique et peut-être un jour retourner en Antarctique.
Au plaisir donc de refaire affaire ensemble.

Ah, Antarctica, we will not forget as forgetting to answer an email.
In fact I have to say that I am satisfied with Condor Journeys as well as Quark Expeditions.
The journey was very professionally organized and we enjoyed it a lot. We were lucky with two very quiet Drake passages, and the weather was quite normal Swiss winter wheater. The crew on the boat was very helpful and motivated to provide a good service.

faire les deux.C'est rageant , d'autant plus que ça n'était pas explicite.

Hotel in Ushuaia excellent. Kapitan Klebnikov is certainly an expedition and well run. Weather and ice conditions influence programme very much, at one stage it was not sure whether we would get to Lyttleton on time. transfer from Multanovsky in deception island harbour perfect. Food good, safety and discipline excellent, landings by zodiac or heli well planned. However, K.K. not a cruise ship, rolles very heavily, lot of seasickness and some accidents, including broken arms and wrists. Crew coped admirably with the elderly and less agile. (By comparison I felt quite young and fit!) Lectures excellent, briefing and debriefing too. Time management on board KK bad. We were jet lagged between Ushuaia and deception Island (same time) because of the time management on KK. Several complaints. Over all a memorable fantastic experience.Hope this is helpful, regards
