Mirador is one of the most important Maya cities. Its enormous buildings dwarf those in other Maya sites. In order to visit this area, one must hike through jungle that gires a first hand experience of the wild Peten Landscape
Al trips are operated with both a local community and bi-lingual guide. The reason we use local community guides is two-fold. As well as the fact that local guides know the rainforest trails, wildlife and sites better than anyone, our employment of them helps to support the communities in the area and we hope will help to slow down the deforestation of the rainforest as local people can earn a good wage guiding tours instead of farming.
The Itinerary

Day 3: El Mirador
You can spend all day exploring the Mayan Preclassic city of El Mirador. Many archaeologists speculate that El Mirador was the first major organized settlement of the Maya. The ruins are of such staggering size and proportion that they dominate more popular sites such as Tikal. They are however totally overgrown and un excavated and provide the visitor with a view of how they must have looked when the first explorers arrived there. Among these buildings is the immense El Tigre Pyramid that is 18 stories high and whose base covers the area of three football fields!
Day 4: Return to El Tintal Camp
Today you will trek back 7hrs to the El Tintal Camp where you will camp overnight.
Day 5: Return to Flores
Another 7hr trek from El Tintal Camp the community of Carmelita where the 4x4 transportation will be waiting to transport you back to Flores.
