The Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in the Caribbean paradise of St. Lucia. Private transfer
from the airport to Cara Suites, overlooking the city of Castries and the Caribbean Sea

Day 2
Free day to explore the island. Take an optional tour to
see the famous towering peaks of the Pitons and then onto Soufriere to visit
the Sulphur Springs. You will also have a briefing today for your yacht trip
to South America. Overnight at Cara Suites. B
Day 3
Pack your bags and board your new home, a 16 metre luxury
yacht (see description below). Head out into the Caribbean Sea and head south
towards the coast of South America. BLD
Day 4
Enjoy the pleasures of a luxury sail down to South America
with your professional crew. BLD
Day 5
Continue along the coast of South America to Guyana. Cruise
into the Essequibo River and clear Immigration. Continue sailing up the Essequibo
River, past villages and rainforest to Shanklands Rainforest Resort. The resort
is carved from the tropical rainforest on a majestic cliff overlooking the silver
water of Guyana's largest river, the Essequibo. White colonial style gingerbread
cottages are set amidst twenty-five acres of rolling lawns with views of the
Essequibo and Mazaruni Rivers and the gold mining town of Bartica. Overnight

Day 6
Today enjoy the nature trail which leads into the thick
forest where you may encounter Tapir, Labba or other wildlife. The bird life
at Shanklands is excellent with nearly 200 species recorded. The Essequibo River
provides an excellent arena for water sports. Enjoy sunfish sailing, kayaking, water
skiing and tubing. Less strenuous activities such as croquet, mini golf and volleyball
can be played on the lawns and beaches. Overnight at Shanklands Rainforest Resort. BLD
Day 7
Today enjoy a boat trip to Marshall Falls, Kyk-Over-Al and
Bartica. Overnight at Shanklands Rainforest Resort. BLD
Day 8
After breakfast transfer to a nearby airstrip for a flight
to Kaieteur Falls, one of the world's natural wonders, flowing over a sandstone
conglomerate tableland into a deep gorge - a drop of 822 feet or 5 times the height
of Niagara Falls. Kaieteur supports a unique micro environment with Tank Bromeliads,
the largest in the world, in which the tiny Golden frog spends its entire
life and the rarely seen Guiana Cock- of-the-rock nesting close by. The lucky visitor may also see the
famous flights of the Kaieteur Swifts or Makonaima Birds which nest under the
vast shelf of rock carved by the centuries of water, hidden behind the eternal
curtain of falling water.
Flight continues onto Annai.
Lunch at Rock View Lodge. Transfer by 4x4 to Iwokrama Forest and view the
rainforest from the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway 35M up in the tree-tops.
Continue on by 4x4 to the Iwokrama Field Station. Take an afternoon
walk along the trails leading from the field station with an Iwokrama Ranger
looking for wildlife. Overnight at Iwokrama Field Station. BLD
Day 9
This morning, take an early morning boat ride along the
Essequibo River for wildlife watching with an Iwokrama Ranger. Return to the
field station for breakfast. Then take a boat down river and then walk
through the rainforest to Turtle Mountain, which offers fantastic views over
the canopy of the rainforest. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the forest. On the
return trip, visit Kurupukari Falls to see the Amerindian petroglyphs (dependent
on the water level). Then visit the small Amerindian village of Fair View before
returning to the field station. Late afternoon transfer by 4 x 4 back to Rock
View Lodge for overnight. BLD
Day 10
Today explore the foothills of the Pakariama Mountains
and nearby Amerindian villages. Overnight at Rock View Lodge. BLD
Day 11
Transfer by 4x4 to Ginep Landing and then by boat on the
Rupununi River to Karanambu Ranch. Your hostess here is Diane McTurk, well
known for her work in rehabilitating orphaned, giant river otters to the wild.
She has been filmed by National Geographic and visited by the Calgary Zoo.
Dinner with Diane will include stories on the history of her family and the
Rupununi Savannahs. Overnight at Karanambu Ranch. BLD
Day 12
Diane often has resident orphaned otters and you can help her
as she tends to them. Visit Simoni Pond for some of the best inland fishing (add
US$10.00) in Guyana including Peacock Bass or explore the flooded forest or savannah
with Diane. Explore the Rupununi River in search of wild Giant River Otters, Black
Caiman and Arapaima. An evening visit to Crane Pond to see hundreds of Ibis, Anhinga,
Heron and Egret roosting is a highlight. Overnight at Karanambu Ranch. BLD
Day 13
After breakfast take a flight to Georgetown. Enjoy a Georgetown
city tour. Overnight at Cara Lodge. B
Day 14 Transfer to the airport for your departing flight. B
