The Itinerary
DAY 1:
Arrive in Guyana and transfer to your hotel in Georgetown.
The vibrant character and graceful beauty of Georgetown reflects
much of the city's exceptional cultural history and diversity.
Designed by the Dutch (and called Stabroek), Guyana's capital
has wide, tree-lined avenues, lily-covered canals, and many fine
examples of 18th and 19th century colonial buildings. The famous
Stabroek Market, once described as a bizarre bazaar, contains
every conceivable item from household goods to gold
jewellery.
DAY 2:
Transfer to the airport to enjoy a flight over endless rainforest before
reaching the spectacular Kaieteur Falls
with its sheer drop of 741 feet and unique ecosystem. We then continue
on to the Brazilian border and bathe in the natural jacuzzi formed
when the Ireng River thunders over solid jasper rocks at Orinduik Falls.
At the end of the flight a boat trip on the Demerara, Kamuni and
Pokerero Rivers, under the canopy of the forest bring us to
Timberhead Rain Forest Resort. The rustic lodge, traditionally hand-crafted
from local timber from tropical hardwoods and thatched
roofs is set at the edge of the forest overlooking the Pokerero River
and is the perfect base to encounter nature. (BLD).
DAY 3:
With well marked trails through the forest it is possible to spot some
of the 271 bird species recorded at Timberhead. The creeks offer
excellent canoeing and the night reveals caiman and water lillies that
only bloom with the cover of darkness. Nearby is the Amerindian village
of Santa Mission, which can be reached by boat or an hour's walk through
the jungle. This is a chance to experience their
way of life and purchase local handicraft made from materials of
the rainforest.(BLD).

Transfer by boat to Sand Hills for an exciting open backed jeep ride through the
forest which often exposes family groups of Trumpeters or the Black Curassow. The
forest trail ends on the Essequibo River where Shanklands Rainforest Resort offers
fabulous views of the river and forest. Set on rolling lawns with a rainforest backdrop,
Shanklands is both romantic and exciting. Wander the nature trails or explore
the river and creeks by kayak to discover hidden coves and beaches. Overnight
at Shanklands Rainforest Resort. (BLD)
