Honduras Holidays: Caribbean Impressions

Northern Honduras is a teeming place of black water lagoons, tangled swamps and tropical forests filled with birds. Charming fishing villages and old port towns display the nation's Caribbean character. A point of convergence of habitats and species of peoples and customs, Honduras' Caribbean coast is a showcase for natural diversity, cultural richness and a remarkable history.
Towns like Tela and La Ceiba flourished during the heyday of the banana companies, whose tall, wooden, high ceiling and tin roofed buildings are still to be found. Tela today is a relaxed coastal town, offering some of the country's finest beaches. La Ceiba is larger and more spirited and is fast becoming known for its frenzied "Carnaval" celebration in May.

Day 1:
Transfer from San Pedro Sula to Tela. En route we visit the Lancetilla Botanical Garden. The United Fruit Company founded the gardens over 70 years ago as an experimental botanical site. Here you will find hardwood, medicinal and ornamental plants as well as tropical fruit trees from all over the world. You will see how the bamboo forest absorbs some 90% of the day-light, admire the long rows of majestic Royal Palms or try exotic fruits fresh from the tree. An Orchid Garden and a Natural Reserve with a beautiful 1,200 hectares of virgin tropical rain-forest make up this wonderful natural area. We then proceed to our hotel. Overnight in Tela.

Day 2:
In the early morning we leave by boat to ex-plore the impressive rock formations of Punta Sal. We visit the sheltered little bays, well hidden among the rocks, with palm fringed beaches and blue lagoons. We will take a brief forest hike. The rest of the time we are free to relax on the beach or swim and snorkel in the crystal clear water and explore the interesting marine life of the world's second largest Coral Reef, which comes close to the shore at Punta Sal. Day 3:
Today we take a full day hike behind the fa-mous Lancetilla Botanical Gardens, in a rain forest and tropical paradise. This is the perfect place to escape civilization for a few hours and to experience natural Honduras at its best. This area of tropical rain forest is home to alot of birds, colourful butterflies, monkeys and many other small animals. We will walk in the shade of giant tropical trees, across streams of fresh mountain water. Overnight Tela.

Day 4:
After breakfast we transfer to La Ceiba airport for a 25-minute flight to Roatan Island. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Overnight Roatan.

Day 5 & 6:
Days left free to enjoy the fun and sun of Roatan. Some of the best beaches in Central America can be found on Roatan. Many additional activities can be organised for these days for instance snorkelling, diving, sea kayaking, water sports, biking or horse riding at an additional cost. Enjoy. Overnights Roatan.

Day 7:
Morning flight from Roatan to San Pedro Sula in time to connect with your international departure flight or extension of your stay with another of our itineraries.
