This comfortable journey first visits the cradle of the flourishing May culture, western Honduras, with its famous
Copan and its many mountain villages full of colour and traditions. We continue through the central region of Honduras,
the main centre of population during the colonial period and one of the least
known areas of Honduras. Finally, we head towards the Caribbean Coast, dominated
by the pattern of lowlands, coastal plains, small islands and keys in the gulf, conditions
that create diverse maritime ecosystems.
The Itinerary
Day 1:
Arrival in San Pedro Sula. Transfer to your hotel. Overnight in San Pedro Sula.
Day 2:
A representative who will transfer you to the direct service bus for Copan will meet you at your hotel. will travel through beautiful countryside. A hotel reservation will be made for you in Copan. This hotel is only a short walk from the direct bus terminal. The rest of the afternoon is left free to enjoy and explore the picturesque village of Copan. Overnight in Copan.
Day 3:
This morning a guide will meet you in your hotel. He will escort you to the Copan Ruins Park, which is located 20 minutes walk from Copan. You will tour the legendary Archaeological Park of Copan, which consists of two main sites: the ruins and the sepulchres. Learn about the impressive 63-step stairway with over 2,500 hieroglyphs and masterfully carved Stella. You will return to Copan in time to take the afternoon direct bus back to San Pedro Sula. Day 4:
Meet with our guide at 8:30 am and transfer to Cerro Azul Meambar. The region around Yojoa Lake is rich in different habitat types, it is home or temporal host of a huge amount of migratory birds. The national park Cerro Azul Meambar works as a retreating area for a lot of species because of increased human activities around the Lake. Overnight Azul Meambar Visitors Centre.
Day 5:
Today we explore the magnificent tropical forest types of the Cerro Azul Meambar National Park. The national park is one of the main protected areas around Lake Yojoa, which is fed by the small rivers of the surrounding mountains. We will hike to the interchange zone between the tropical rainforest and the tropical cloud forest enjoying impressive views of the lake. Overnight Cerro Azul Meambar Visitors Center.
Day 6:
Transfer to Tegucigalpa. En route we will visit the city of Comayagua, which was once the capital of Honduras. We will visit the cities colonial Cathedral and learn about the cities interesting history. After this tour we continue onto Tegucigalpa. Overnight in Tegucigalpa.
Day 7:
After breakfast transfer to the visitor's centre of La Tigra National Park. La Tigra boasts everything a Honduran national park should, from an abundance of exotic animal species to refreshing waterfalls to kilometres of peaceful, well maintained trails. Hike on park trails, over the mountain. During the hike, we have plenty of opportunity to enjoy and admire the beauty of the forest. In the afternoon we drive to Valle de Angeles, where we visit the famous National Handicraft Centre. In the afternoon return to Tegucigalpa. Overnight in Tegucigalpa.
Day 8:
Departure from Tegucigalpa to Olancho, Honduran's interior where cowboys still roam. This region is one the most unknown in Honduras. Driving through a beautiful landscape we will reach the Caribbean town of Trujillo in the late afternoon. Overnight in Trujillo.
Day 9:
Early morning excursion to the Capiro and Calentura National Park, set on the mountain right behind Trujillo. The mountain offers a great view of the majestic Trujillo Bay, one of the most beautiful in the country. Leisure time at the beach. Overnight in Trujillo.
Day 10:
Transfer to Tela, today we will travel through some of the most picturesque scenic areas of Honduras. En route we will visit La Ceiba, one the merriest towns in Honduras. We will take a city tour and lunch. We will arrive in Tela late afternoon. Overnight in Tela.
Day 11:
Transfer to Tela where we will visit the Lancetilla Botanical Garden. The United Fruit Company founded the gardens over 70 years ago as an experimental botanical site. Here you will find hardwood, medicinal and ornamental plants as well as tropical fruit trees from all over the world. You will see how the bamboo forest absorbs some 90% of the daylight, admire the long rows of majestic Royal Palms or try exotic fruits fresh from the tree. An Orchid Garden and a Natural Reserve with it's beautiful 1,200 hectare virgin tropical rainforest with 240 species of birds are also part of the Park. We then proceed to our hotel. Overnight Tela.
Day 12:
In the early morning leave by boat to explore the impressive rock formations of Punta Sal. Visit the sheltered little bays, well hidden among the rocks, with palm fringed beaches and blue lagoons. There you will enjoy a tropical picnic, listening to the Howler Monkeys living in the forest behind the natural beaches. Swim and snorkel in the crystal clear water exploring the interesting marine life as the world's second largest Coral Reef comes close to shore at Punta Sal. Free time to relax on the white sandy beach of Tela. Overnight in Tela.
Day 13:
Today is left free to enjoy the sun, sand and funky atmosphere of the Caribbean coast of Honduras. Overnight Tela.
Day 14:
Transfer to the San Pedro Sula airport on time to connect to your departure flight or an ex-tension program to the beautiful Bay Islands.
