For lovers of tropical flora and fauna, this is a dream date. A journey
through a volcanic island chain in a giant unspoiled lake, to two great
wildlife reserves and down densely forested jungle rivers. Jungle Love is a
romance of tropical proportions. Arriving from Managua by small plane to
the south-eastern shores of Lake Nicaragua, you spend the remainder of
the journey exploring in small boat and on foot. The journey begins as you
travel down the mighty San Juan River which connects Lake Nicaragua to the
Caribbean Sea, arriving at the confluence of Bartola and San Juan Rivers
and the start of the Indio Maiz Biological Reserve, 300,000 acres of virgin
rain forest with an infinitely diverse flora and fauna, a virtual rainbow
of butterflies, three species of monkeys, over 700 species of birds and
much more. We hike in this magic forest of tropical sights and sounds
and explore the Bartola River in canoe. Later, we continue to the wide
expanse of Lake Nicaragua and the isolated and tranquil Archipelago of
Solentiname, to explore its 36, sparsely populated islands, their unique
artists colony and incredible bird life. One of the country's finest areas
for viewing tropical fauna is in the wetland and gallery forest of the Los
Guatusos Wildlife Reserve, which we examine in boat and discover its
astonishingly vibrant bird, monkey and reptile populations. Few people have
the chance to experience tropical wildlife in this kind of setting. This is
one love affair with nature that you may never get over.
