Tambopata River Safari

Arequipa - Puerto Maldonado

Peru

This adventure is a fascinating blend of exotic Peruvian habitats and exciting whitewater rafting. Will acclimatize us in the 12,000 ft. elevation of Titicaca Lake where we will visit the mountainous country of the Quechua and Aymara people. Departing from Juliaca and descending along the east slope of the Andes we will launch our rafts at the edge of the cloud forest, where it precipitously drops to the tropical rain forest. After navigate the exciting Class III and IV whitewater, we will finally float out to our camp close to the Macaw Lick in the middle of the Tambopata Nature Reserve. Every day after an exciting day of shooting rapids there is plenty of time for exploring, hiking, bird watching, swimming of just plain relaxing. Each night our camps are pitched on pristine river beaches at the edge of the jungle. As we descend deeper into the jungle, the rapids gradually diminish in size, allowing us time to absorb the stunning beauty of the tropical rain forest, many exotic birds and monkeys spy on us from the river's edge. Time to time we will see otters, caimans, and capybaras as we float by. Every now and then a tapir or even a jaguar is spotted. The combination of environments interspersed with moments of excitement and tranquility is a experience of a lifetime.
